hey friends,
things have been so busy for me lately! Life has picked up and with a new job at an arts non-profit I am truly learning about being an artist and all the time that goes into providing resources to other artists. not a lot of writing has been able to go on in this time (boo) but I have had some poems published during this creative lull and done a few readings as well so I thought I could do a mass update here of the past 7 months:
february: “back home” published in SAPPHIC Field Guide to Returning
march 19: “grown/programmed (or: biological computing unit)” published in Solarpunk Magazine Issue 14
march 22: read at Plato’s lounge at Gallery 115
april: read at Scribblin’ in the Margins at the Arts Court Atelier
may: “when I come out as transgender” published in The Bitchin’ Kitsch Volume 15
july: “i ask you to come with me into the sun and your silence is a resounding ‘no’” published in Sad Goose Cooperative Issue 4
and lots and lots of thinking about writing. and submitting. and all the non-writing activities that are also part of the writing process.
in summary: lots has happened! and I have plenty in the works, too (publishers pls I have so many chapbooks and collections waiting for good homes…) so this is far from it for me. I’d love to do a pride reading come the end of august so keep your eyes out for something of the sort (big gay picnic part 3 anyone?), and I’m going to look at doing a pride market or two and selling some of my designs as prints? along with my book + chap + zines and things! I’m also working on some new physical art of sorts with projection mapping and Touch Designer, which is a new and exciting medium for me. Ottawa friends - something is coming.
until then, I’ll continue ~making moves in silence~ and working on my little projects. I have lots of draft essays for you all here on substack (over 20 drafts at various points of completion) so hopefully I’ll be getting around to those. I’ve been working on a greater collection of essays about celebrities and the Internet…. but all in due time. for now, I hope you enjoy the new work I’ve been putting out. especially my poems with Solarpunk Mag and SAPPHIC. those I’m especially proud of.
promise I’ll try my best to communicate on here more. I have a lot of thoughts I need to get out and this tends to be a good medium for that, just with a little added pressure, so don’t count on anything regular. I like to think I pop into your inbox as a welcome surprise when my work does come out.
anyways, thanks for reading. I’m so grateful you keep up with me :)
love from your favourite scatterbrained poet,
Salem Paige
